A Funeral Mass for Arthur Michael “Artie” Venezia, 68, was celebrated on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in the Church of Saint Luke, Belmont.

Born in Little Rock, Ark., Mr. Venezia was a lifelong Watertown resident. He graduated from Watertown High School and later from Norwich University, Vermont. During the Vietnam era, he served overseas in Germany as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army. After returning from overseas, he co-founded and was a partner in Venice Associates for 30 years before he becoming a realtor at Venezia and Delaney in Watertown 12 years ago.

Artie was a dedicated and active citizen of Watertown. He was a longtime coach of the Watertown High School Boys Hockey Team and was still active in the Watertown Youth Hockey Program. He was named the “Godfather of Watertown Hockey”. Mr. Venezia also served on the committee that created the Fitness Center at Watertown High School, dedicating many hours to fundraising for its successful completion.

He was honored both by Watertown High School and Norwich University Athletic Halls of Fame. Inducted in Watertown for his distinguished and dedicated community service; and at Norwich for his ability on the soccer field and hockey rink. Mr. Venezia died at the Spaulding Hospital, Cambridge, on Friday, July 12, 2013.

He was the beloved husband for 47 years of Barbara L. (LaRose) Venezia; devoted father of Michael A. Venezia and his wife Rosanna; Linda L. Sutherland and her husband Wayne; Christie V. Diaz and her husband Leo; and Jamie S. Venezia and his wife Jennifer all of Watertown; devoted son of Arthur W. Venezia of Belmont and the late Elvira J. (Galante) Venezia; dear brother of Judith Kavanagh and her husband Dennis of Belmont, Susan Venezia and her husband George Ruggiero of Boston and Stephen Venezia and his wife Lorna of Marblehead. Loving grandfather of Olivia, Gabriella, and Dante Venezia, Matthew, Lauren, Leah and Brett Sutherland, Taylor, Benjamin, Max and Jack Bunnell, and Mia, Anthony, Gianna and Lola Venezia.
